Assoun Saint Mary's Orthodox Church is the Saviour of the village. The church construction dates back to the 18th century — a testament to the deep and enduring Christian faith of the Assoun community.
Assoun Saint Mary's Orthodox Church was destroyed during the Ottoman era and again during the Lebanese civil war, but was faithfully re-constructed on both occasions — a symbol of the community's unshakable resolve and devotion.
In recent years, led by the Assoun Saint Mary Orthodox Committee (Lebanon), the church has undergone a major restoration and renovation, in addition to the construction of an adjacent Hall to cater for the community's spiritual and social needs.
Today, Assoun Saint Mary's Orthodox Church remains a symbol of the unshakable Christian faith in the Danniyeh area, and stands to assert strong roots, identity and heritage for all the Assoun generations spread across the world.
"The church is where our faith, our family, and our heritage come together. It is the soul of Assoun."
